As part of a broad identification system for the loan market, Markit and Standard & Poor’s CUSIP Service Bureau have collaborated to issue unique identifiers for each loan market entity. Approximately 18,000 Markit Entity Identifiers have been issued covering counterparties, funds / sub-funds and borrowers. This program includes the issuance of CUSIPs for deals and their respective facilities by the CUSIP Service Bureau. CUSIPs and MEIs will allow for straight-thru-processing and will improve accuracy, transparency and operational efficiency in the syndicated loan market. Recent innovative technology initiatives, such as the ability to reconcile loan positions and receive agent bank notices electronically, rely on the use of standard unique identifiers.
