May 14, 2020 - The LSTA today announced a new initiative to help slow the spread of Covid-19, called “Masks for Main Street.”
The LSTA seeded and solicited contributions initially from its Board of Directors for the purchase of FDA-certified surgical masks to be distributed to front-line workers and first responders in the Covid-19 crisis. The initial distribution of 5,000 masks is being made directly through several community charitable organizations in the New York Metropolitan area and directly to workers at individual restaurants, groceries and other businesses who have continued to provide essential services to our communities.
Lee Shaiman, Executive Director of the LSTA, noted that “many of our fellow Americans do not have the option of working remotely and have been placed in harm’s way while providing essential services. A number of our board members have been very generous, and we were able to source and distribute 5,000 masks throughout the tri-state area, which has been so terribly impacted by Covid-19. LSTA looks to expand this program to its broader membership and will seek to partner with other community organizations to provide this critical PPE to those who need this important protection to do their jobs and do it safely.”
